Prtscrn captures the whole screen and alt prtscrn captures the active window. Windows 10 provides several ways to take screenshots of your entire computer screen or just select parts of it. Windows 10 offers a wide range of built in screen capture options. Note whether or not the prt sc or similar text is at the top of the key or at the bottom of the key.

Press the print screen key. As with the plain old print screen key you can save the entire screen or the active window with print. The print screen button on your keyboard can take a screenshot and save it as a file take a screenshot without saving it as a file or take a screenshot of only one window instead of the whole screen. The print screen key may be entitled prtsc or something similar.

But in all versions of windows this works differently and the name of the key is now an anachronism. Printing your screen or otherwise taking a screenshot is a great way to keep a copy of whatever it is you are seeing. The print screen button may be labeled as prtscn prntscrn print scr or something similar. Either one captures the image to the windows clipboard.

Back in the days of dos the prtscn key used to print the screen. There are several different ways to take screenshots on your windows 10 machine and they all function a little differently. Windows 10 readily allows you to take snapshots of your screen whenever you want to. Hit alt print screen.

Type paint into the search bar next to the start menu if paint is already open click control n and then select ok when paint asks you to approve the height and width. If your keyboard has a number pad on the right side of it you ll find the prt sc key left of the top row of keys in the number pad. The print screen key will be in the upper right corner of the keyboard next to the delete key. This is one of the best things ever to hit screenshots in windows having arrived in 2015.

You can save the full screen the active window or a rectangular selection to a file or to the clipboard for reuse in another app. Find the print screen prtscr key. The fastest way to take a screenshot on windows 10 is by pressing the prtscn. Pressing the print screen key will take a picture of the entire screen s contents.
